The Zoo

The boarding house got to take a Sunday afternoon trip together!  We went to the Yaounde Zoo, which wasn't exactly impressive, but it was still nice to go out and do something together!  There were definitely plenty of monkeys to see though!  Some were even running around out of their cages.  The boys were a little afraid as some the baboons stalked the fence line, glaring at them.  :)

Making Dresses

After buying our pagne (fabric), we had a tailor come to Erica's apartment to take our measurements and requests for dresses, skirts, and handbags made out of the fabric of our choice.  I'm excited to see how she does with it!

Wedding Party

On our ride home from Ebogo, back to Yaounde, we were suddenly stopped by a wedding party!  A group of women surrounded our care and began to dance.  The bride walked up, and her friends draped her train all over the hood of our car.  Apparently we were supposed to give them something, but Erica and I were in such a shock, not to mention laughing a lot, we had no idea what to do!

Cooling Off

When we arrived back at the dock, we found some Cameroonian children cooling off in the river

Quick Stop at a Village

Our second stop on our boat trip was at a small village, where a mother was growing coco plants. She and her two children lived in a small hut that was a short walk away from the river.

Big Tree

On our boat ride, we stopped along the shore and took a quick hike up into the forest. Our guide was naming us different kinds of trees, and the end of our hike ended at what is known as Cameroon's largest tree!

Canoe Trip

Erica and I spent this gorgeous Cameroonian Saturday out on the river. We took a boat that sits low in the water, with a guide who spoke no English. It gave Erica a great chance to work on her French though! :) And I definitely got to work on my Chacos tan line ;)

Fun with an iPhone

This is what happens when you let a little boy take photos on your iPhone.  He's having way to much fun  ;)

Progress

It was great to work on the mural again today! We got just about all of the background finished. With a smaller group of students, it was much easier to manage working with the boys at the orphanage.
